Secretary-General António Guterres issued the Global Roadmap for Accelerated SDG 7 Action in Support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
The Roadmap is a summary of the High-level Dialogue which virtually brought together Heads of State and Government and global leaders from business and other sectors. The Roadmap builds on the recommendations and milestones identified in the Theme Reports developed by the 5 Technical Working Groups.
According to the report, gender equality and women’s empowerment must be prioritized, including in the design, production and distribution of modern energy services as well as decision-making process in the energy sector.
The roadmap also calls all stakeholders, including Member States, international organizations, multilateral development banks, businesses, civil society, scientific communities, cities or regional 4 governments, to create and strengthen partnerships including through the Energy Compacts. Energy Compacts are voluntary commitments from Member States and other stakeholders, such as companies, regional/local governments, NGOs and others, with the specific actions they will take to advance progress on SDG7 and net-zero emissions.
