Samoa Pathway – Midterm Review
This framework will monitor the progress of existing partnerships and will stimulate the launch of new, genuine and durable partnerships for the sustainable development of the SIDS. On the 27th of September 2019, the General Assembly held a one-day high level review of the progress made in addressing the priorities of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) through the implementation of the SAMOA Pathway.
Leaders of SIDS emphasized the need for more significant contribution of the international community to mobilize additional development finance from all sources and at all levels to support small island states and welcomed the ownership, leadership and efforts demonstrated by these States in advancing the implementation of the SAMOA Pathway. However, they also acknowledged the fact that these countries are still facing significant challenges in accessing sufficient, affordable development financing, including concessional financing. World leaders voiced their concern about the devastating impacts of climate change, as well as the increasing frequency, scale and intensity of disasters and urged for ambitious global action in line with the Paris Agreement.
